Working for three years on a documentary on coal mining, Les Stone has found his story morphing into a broader look at health care.
In McDowell and Lincoln Counties in West Virginia, health care is an unaffordable luxury. On the order of 75 percent of people here have little or no health insurance. Counties in West Virginia have some of the highest rates of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and respiratory problems in the entire US and are among the poorest in the country.
