Much of Massaia’s other work is made at night or twilight or at any rate somewhat isolated. Here, using large and medium format cameras and getting as close as a couple of feet away, Massaia’s photographs of snoozing sunbathers twist your mind. Seemingly bathing in darkness, made electric in the artist’s darkroom.
