Subrata Biswas: Muzaffarnagar Riots
On August 27, 2013, two brothers from the Hindu Jat community, Uttar Pradesh, India, murdered a young man from Kawal, a local Muslim village.
The predominant story is that Shahnawaz Qureshi 'Eve-teased' Sachin and Gaurav Singh's sister (sexually harassed her in public.) The Singhs killed Qureshi, and then the brothers were themselves attacked and murdered by a mob from Kawal. Ensuing riots claimed dozens of lives and displaced thousands of people.
