“The images hint at the complicated history that race and religion have played in forming Mississippi and how they still affect lives today. I found many things which changed, but also reinforced, my stereotypes. Exploring and photographing was a way for me to come to terms with the stark contradictions found in this place: the darkness and the light, the hate and the love, the horrors and the charms.”
